HC Deb 20 April 1944 vol 399 cc372-3
59. Mr. Driberg

asked the Minister of Food if he has considered the resolution recently sent him by the Maldon Town Council urging that medical practitioners be empowered to issue certificates for extra milk to aged people suffering from illnesses other than those in respect of which the issue of such certificates is now permitted; and if he will make a statement on this matter.

The Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food (Mr. Mabane)

The conditions upon which medical practitioners may issue certificates for extra milk are governed by the advice received from the Food Rationing (Special Diets) Advisory Committee of the Medical Research Council, which continually keeps under review the nutritional needs of all invalids and persons requiring special diets. My right hon. and gallant Friend cannot undertake to modify the conditions already laid down except on the advice of this Committee.
