HC Deb 19 April 1944 vol 399 cc189-90
34. Mr. Price

asked the Minister of Information whether any steps will be taken to translate into foreign languages and circulate in the U.S.S.R., the South American Republics and neutral countries, the publication of his Department entitled, "The Services Handbook," in order that these countries shall have an authoritative account of the exploits of our Armed Forces since the outbreak of war.

Mr. Bracken

This handbook is one of several reference books produced chiefly for use overseas. Most of the material in it has been published in every country in which the Ministry of Information is represented.

Mr. Shinwell

Can the right hon. Gentleman tell us what it costs?

Mr. Bracken

If the hon. Member will give me notice I shall be very glad to provide him with that information.

Mr. Price

Has this handbook been translated, or has it been sent abroad in English?

Mr. Bracken

We have representatives in 47 countries. I do not know whether it has been translated into the languages of all those countries, but I should imagine that it has.
