HC Deb 19 April 1944 vol 399 cc192-3
42. Rear-Admiral Beamish

asked the Prime Minister if he will facilitate visits by serving officers to address Members of this House under reasonable precautions and in the interests of information and mutual understanding.

The Deputy Prime Minister (Mr. Attlee)

No, Sir. His Majesty's Government consider that such visits would be incompatible with the duties, of serving officers.

Rear-Admiral Beamish

Has it not been for many years the almost invariable practice of the Ministers concerned to prevent such visits, and would not such visits be popular and practical?

Mr. Attlee

I have nothing to add to my answer.
