§ The Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of War Transport (Mr. Noel-Baker)The through journey between London and Birmingham is made by narrow canal boats which operate in pairs. Six pairs of boats are now worked by women crews; each crew consists of three. Most other boats are manned by family crews, but I regret that I am unable to say how many women there may be among them.
