§ 18. Colonel Greenwellasked the Secretary of State for War why special pay, such as engineering pay, signal pay or corps pay is paid to all officers up to the rank of lieutenant-colonel in the R.E., R.C.S. and the R.A.S.C., but is not payable to officers of the corps of R.E.M.E.; and, in view of the fact that officers of that corps require to have technical qualifications of the highest order, whether he will consider putting them on the same footing as officers of the R.E.
§ Sir J. GriggFully qualified R.E.M.E. officers draw consolidated rates of pay which include an element of corps pay. These rates are higher than R.E. rates, including the higher rate of corps pay, for lieutenants and captains, the same as R.E. rates for majors and lower than R.E. rates for lieutenant-colonels.
