§ 55. Major Lyonsasked the Minister of Food in what particulars the Emergency Powers (Defence) Food (Soft Drinks) Order, S.R. & O., No. 209, of 1944, meets the complaints made by members of the industry since the issue of the Soft Drinks Order, 1943.
§ Colonel LlewellinArticles 1 (f), 1 (h) and 1 (j) are amendments based on suggestions received from the trade and are generally welcomed by it.
§ Major LyonsWill the right hon. and gallant Gentleman tell the House whether the suggestions from the trade were from those who were members of the Association? Has any regard been paid at all to those persons who refuse to join the group, as they might well do?
§ Colonel LlewellinWe had some representations, which we considered, from others than those in the war-time Association, but they were people who have not got a sugar allocation, who were providing synthetic soft drinks which they had started since the beginning of the war, and which had nothing like the nutritional value of those to which the Order applies.
§ Major LyonsIs the right hon. and gallant Gentleman satisfied that the very small amount of sugar upon which he insists as a necessity has any nutritional value at all unless a person drinks about two or three gallons of it?
§ Colonel LlewellinWithout it, there is none.
