HC Deb 05 April 1944 vol 398 cc1997-8
40. Mr. Driberg

asked the Postmaster-General if he will make representations to the Portuguese Government with a view to expediting the delivery of letters and parcels to the Channel Islands.

The Postmaster-General (Captain Crookshank)

The transmission of letters and parcels from Portugal to addresses in the Channel Islands is not permitted by the enemy. Inquiries have been made by my Department more than once of the Portuguese Authorities as to the possibility of resuming this service, which has been suspended since 1940, but I regret to say so far without result.
