HC Deb 23 September 1943 vol 392 c363
20. Mr. Quintin Hogg

asked the Minister of Labour whether his attention has been drawn to the shortage of labour in laundries in Oxford; and whether he is in a position to announce any policy?

Mr. Bevin

Yes, Sir. My local offices are doing their best to overcome this shortage. Women are not being withdrawn from laundries under the National Service Acts or under the Registration for Employment Order, and it has been agreed with the Board of Trade that special steps should be taken to restore wastage where essential work is affected.
