HC Deb 22 September 1943 vol 392 cc183-4
22. Dr. Little

asked the Secretary of State for Air whether he will arrange that any lady serving in the W.A.A.F., who is the wife of a man serving in His Majesty's Forces, will get her leave at the same time and for the same period of leave as her husband?

Sir A. Sinclair:

Subject to the exigencies of the Service, personnel of the Women's Auxiliary Air Force married to members of His Majesty's Forces can normally take their leave at the same time as their husbands. The grant of an identical period of leave is not always possible since the leave entitlements of husband and wife may not be the same. Where, however, the husband is on embarkation or disembarkation leave and the wife's full leave entitlement is exhausted, compassionate leave may be granted up to a maximum of 14 days.

Dr. Little

While appreciating what my right hon. Friend has said, I still hope he will go into the matter and on compassionate grounds see that when a husband and wife are in the Forces they receive their leave at the same time.
