HC Deb 21 September 1943 vol 392 cc1-2
1. General Sir George Jeffreys

asked the Secretary of State for War whether he is satisfied with the rate of production of guns on self-propelled mountings?

The Secretary of State for War (Sir James Grigg)

I feel confident that sufficient self-propelled guns are being produced to meet our needs.

Sir G. Jeffreys

Can my right hon. Friend say to what extent these guns have been used in action and whether they have proved entirely satisfactory?

Sir J. Grigg

I should be grateful to my hon. and gallant Friend if he would put down that question. It is rather a large question., and would need a considerable amount of research to be answered in detail.

Mr. Hammersley

Does the right hon. Gentleman's reply refer to all self-propelled guns produced on behalf of the United Nations or only to British manufactured guns?

Sir J. Grigg

The answer means exactly what I said, which was that I am confident that sufficient self-propelled guns are being produced to meet our needs. The production programmes for the two countries have, as the hon. Member knows, achieved a considerable degree of integration.
