HC Deb 21 September 1943 vol 392 cc15-6
36. Dr. Little

asked the Secretary of State for War whether, owing to the serious shortage of houses in Northern Ireland, which is causing great inconvenience to many people, he will have all houses and premises no longer used by His Majesty's Forces de-requisitioned at the earliest possible moment?

Sir J. Grigg

Buildings which are no longer needed by the Army are regularly de-requisitioned. Buildings such as those referred to which are now empty but are likely to be needed again are usually retained, as in most cases it would cause more inconvenience than ever if they had to be requisitioned once more.

Dr. Little

As certain houses, already de-requisitioned, are uninhabitable owing to their present condition, will my right hon. Friend see that all de-requisitioned houses are immediately repaired and made habitable?

Sir J. Grigg

I am very sorry; I never heard a word of that question.
