HC Deb 21 September 1943 vol 392 c5
8. Mr. Molson

asked the Secretary of State for War how many enemy aircraft were shot down by batteries in Antiaircraft Command between 3rd September, 1939, and 31st July, 1941; and how many were shot down during the period commonly called the Battle of Britain?

Sir J. Grigg

I understand that my hon. Friend wishes 1941 in his Question to read 1943. In this case the answer to the first part of the Question is that 739 were certainly shot down. The answer to the second part is 312 if the period referred to is taken to be August and September, 1940.

Mr. Molson

Will the right hon. Gentleman say how many more aircraft it will be necessary for Anti-aircraft Command to shoot down before it can be regarded as an operational Command for the purposes of the award of the 1939–1943 Star?

Sir J. Grigg

I understand that there are a lot of other Questions to the Prime Minister on the Order Paper, and perhaps the hon. Member will raise his question in that connection.
