HC Deb 27 October 1943 vol 393 cc177-8
40. Mr. Edmund Harvey

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether meals and milk are now to be provided for schoolchildren in British Guiana in other places than Georgetown; whether this arrangement has already come into operation; and what charge is being made to the children?

Colonel Stanley

A scheme to provide meals for schoolchildren outside Georgetown is being placed before the Legislative Council. It is proposed to supply meals free to necessitous children and to charge one penny a meal to others. Milk is not generally included in the scheme on account of shortage, but the possibility of supplying it will be kept in view.
