HC Deb 20 October 1943 vol 392 c1373
39. Mr. Astor

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether the committee investigating the dehydration of citrus fruit in Palestine has completed its work; what are its recommendations; and what action has been taken?

Mr. Emrys-Evans

The Ministry of Food Dehydration Mission, to which my right hon. and gallant Friend referred in his answer to my hon. Friend on 21st July, has now returned to this country, and is engaged in preparing its report to the Minister of Food. When the Mission's report is available, consideration will be given to what further action if any is practicable and desirable in the matter of extending citrus dehydration facilities in Palestine.

Mr. Astor

Is my hon. Friend aware that the distress of citrus fruit growers in Palestine is very severe, and will he show a certain amount of urgency in the matter, otherwise they will all be bankrupt?
