HC Deb 20 October 1943 vol 392 c1356
5. Mr. Lipson

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what steps he has taken to protect the interests of British subjects who have invested their savings in the Chinese Reorganisation Loan?

Mr. Law

My hon. Friend will be aware that, since the Japanese occupation of large parts of China, the revenue on which the Reorganisation Loan is secured has been much reduced, and that the Chinese Government were obliged, in July, 1939, to suspend payments. The conditions which necessitated this suspension unfortunately still obtain; but the matter will be one for friendly discussion with the Chinese Government when the Japanese have been driven out of China.
