HC Deb 20 October 1943 vol 392 c1354
7. Sir A. Southby

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he will give an undertaking that there is no question of any official envoy being sent to represent the Badoglio Government in this country and that the affairs of the defeated Italian nation will be dealt with through the Allied military commanders via the A.M.G.O.T. organisation?

Mr. Law

Whatever arrangements are deemed to be suitable in this matter after consultation with our Allies will be announced to the House in due course.

Sir A. Southby

Would the Minister bear in mind that there is very strong feeling in this country lest Italy should he treated as a great friend and a normal nation, instead of as a country which has been defeated in war?
