HC Deb 13 October 1943 vol 392 c880
61. Mr. Brooke

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food whether he is aware that widespread doubts prevail in the trades concerned as to the value of Fabon, Limited, a company formed under the auspices of the Ministry to control the home fats melting indusitry; what were the objections to exercising control through existing trade organisations; what cost has been incurred up to date in subsidising Fabon; and what increases in the prices of the products concerned have been arranged by Fabon since its formation?

Mr. Mabane

I am not aware that there is any widespread doubt in the trades concerned as to the value of Fabon, Limited. The company was formed for the sole purpose of administering the scheme of concentration of the technical fat melting industry, and was set up by the trade organisations themselves in agreement with the Ministry of Food. The company has not been subsidised, and has arranged no increases in the prices of the products of its members.
