HC Deb 13 October 1943 vol 392 c863
27. Professor Gruffydd

asked the Secretary of State for Air how chaplains in the R.A.F. are appointed; and whether any evidence as to character is required of candidates?

Sir A. Sinclair

Royal Air Force chaplains are selected by the Chaplain-in-Chief's department in the Air Ministry from candidates recommended by the governing bodies of the various denominations. The recommendation of the responsible ecclesiastical authority is accepted as evidence of character.

Wing-Commander Hulbert

Is it not a fact that the Chaplains' Department does a very valuable amount of welfare work?

Sir A. Sinclair

Certainly.
