HC Deb 13 October 1943 vol 392 c862
23. Wing-Commander Hulbert

asked the Secretary of State for Air whether he can state, without disclosing information of use to the enemy, the number of enemy aircraft destroyed by Balloon Command during the years 1940, 1941 and 1942, respectively?

The Secretary of State for Air (Sir Archibald Sinclair)

I regret that the figures asked for cannot be given as their publication would provide useful information to the enemy.

Wing-Commander Hulbert

Will the right hon. Baronet agree that the number is very considerable and has more than justified the existence of Balloon Command?

Sir A. Sinclair

I certainly agree with my hon. and gallant Friend that Balloon Command has fully justified its existence.

Wing-Commander Hulbert

Is Balloon Command now regarded as an operational Command?

Sir A. Sinclair

Yes, Sir.
