Worksheets are compiled by the drivers of all Admiralty vehicles showing the journeys performed, the mileage run, and the amount of petrol expended, and these are examined to ensure that transport is economically used. Returns of petrol expenditure are forwarded by all Naval Establishments to Admiralty fortnightly for examination and investigation where necessary. Admiralty 1549 contractors are only authorised to despatch material by road where conveyance by rail is impracticable.
