HC Deb 30 March 1943 vol 388 cc16-7
14. Mr. Stokes

asked the Secretary of State for War whether he has any information as to the estimated casualties inflicted on the Germans by the Russians since the commencement of Russo-German operations on 22nd June, 1941; and as to how these compare with the total German losses during the 1914–1918 war?

Sir J. Grigg

I can only refer to the statements made from time to time by official Russian and German sources. These estimates of course differ widely.

Mr. Stokes

Is my right hon. Friend aware that a statement has been made in this House that the Russians have already destroyed and put out of permanent action more millions of Germans than were casualties in the whole of the last war, and whether in view of the fact that 2,000,000 Germans were killed in the last war and 4,000,000 wounded, ought not the war to be over if that statement is correct?
