§ 23. Mr. William Brownasked the Secretary of State for Scotland what representations he has received from the local authorities in Glasgow against the proposed transfer to that town of an office and its large staff; and whether he will discuss with the Department concerned the desirability of finding accommodation for this office in the southern counties so as to obviate complaints about transfer of English workers to Scotland, with the consequential billeting difficulties?
§ Sir J. GriggI have been asked to reply. The difficulties in connection with the reception of this office in Glasgow have been such that it has proved impossible to carry out the projected move, which on general grounds is desirable and in many ways might be considered very 19 necessary. I am satisfied that suitable alternative accommodation cannot be found for the office in England.
