asked the Minister of Supply how many persons are employed in the Cotton Control; and what salaries are paid to the Controller, Deputy-Controller and Assistant Controllers?

The Minister of Supply (Sir Andrew Duncan)

516 persons are employed in the Cotton Control. The Controller's salary is £1,500 per annum. There is at present no post of Deputy-Controller. The salary of Assistant Controllers is £1,000 per annum.

Is my right hon. Friend satisfied that this somewhat top-heavy organisation is really for the benefit of the industry, particularly the smaller units?

I would say that there is no foundation for such a statement regarding this organisation. It is a very well-knit organisation and does a great service.
