HC Deb 24 June 1943 vol 390 c1305
47. Mr. Parker

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether steps are being taken to drain the Dovey Valley, in Central Wales, and the marshes adjoining its mouth, with a view to increased food production?

The Minister of Agriculture (Mr. R. S. Hudson)

Some 1,200 acres of Borth Bog on the South side of the estuary of the River Dovey are being reclaimed by means of drainage work and a proposal to reclaim a further r,000 acres of the Bog is under consideration. No large-scale drainage work is in progress elsewhere in the Dovey Valley.

Mr. Glenvil Hall

Will the value of improvements as the result of Government expenditure eventually go back to the owners, or will it remain with the Government?
