§ The Minister of Labour (Mr. Ernest Bevin)This matter, the importance and urgency of which I fully appreciate, is one of considerable difficulty and has necessitated a great deal of close and detailed study. I have made progress in my consideration of the problem and have certain proposals in mind designed to alleviate the present situation, but I have not yet completed my consultations with my colleagues. As soon as I am in a position to announce definite plans I will make a statement to the House.
§ Mrs. KeirIs my right hon. Friend aware that it is nearly six months since he originally said he was considering this problem? Will he be in a position to give a more detailed answer before the summer Recess?
§ Mr. ManderWill my right hon. Friend bear in mind that the present time is a very appropriate time to bring forward proposals of this kind, in view of the great 1282 difficulty which anyone experiences in getting any kind of domestic help?
