HC Deb 02 June 1943 vol 390 cc211-2
Commander Sir Archibald Southby

With your permission, Mr. Speaker, and that of the House I rise to make a personal explanation. In a Supplementary Question which I addressed to the Secretary of State for War at Question time yesterday, I inadvertently did a great injustice to the hon. Lady the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Home Security, for which I can only offer her my most sincere apologies. In my Supplementary Question I suggested that the hon. Lady had recently said in a speech that the Home Guard would receive a shake-up when the new Fire Watching Orders were published. I made this statement in all good faith, but as a result of misread and mistaken information. I find it to be quite incorrect; the hon. Lady referred, not to the Home Guard, but to the Fire Guard. I take this, the first possible, opportunity to tender to her, to you, Sir, and to this House my apologies and regret that I should inadvertently have conveyed a false impression.
