HC Deb 29 July 1943 vol 391 cc1759-60
28. Mr. Dobbie

asked the Secretary of State for India which of the Provincial Governments represent a coalition of parties or groups; how many are formed exclusively by Moslem League members or under its leadership; what proportion of these Ministers are recent adherents of the Moslem League, or other political group whom they claim to represent; and how many have met the Assembly concerned and sought or received any expression of confidence?

Mr. Amery

All the Ministries in the six Provinces in which the normal constitution is functioning are based on coalitions of parties or interests. Five of them are headed by Ministers who belong to the Moslem League. Except in Sind, where two Ministers joined the League last autumn, I am not aware that any of the Moslem Ministers have only recently joined the League. I have no information that a vote of confidence has been withheld from any of these Ministries. The recently-formed Ministry in the North-West Frontier Province has yet to meet the Legislature.
