HC Deb 29 July 1943 vol 391 c1783
73. Mr. Sorensen

asked the Minister of Health whether he will make inquiries into difficulties among nurses in hospitals respecting coupons for clothing, particularly in regard to the relinquishing of coupons- for second-hand uniforms, with a view to arranging with the President of the Board of Trade to extend to nurses the arrangement already existing with the Civil Nursing Reserve or otherwise to secure that nurses shall have a reasonable supply of coupons for their personal use?

Mr. E. Brown

I am not sure what difficulties my hon. Friend has in mind, but if he will give me further information, I will gladly consider the point in consultation with my right hon. Friend the President of the Board of Trade. I may say, however, that the conditions as to coupons which apply to the Civil Nursing Reserve apply also to other hospital nurses.

Mr. Sorensen

Has the right hon. Gentleman received representations already on the point regarding the difficulty of nurses securing sufficient coupons for their personal use?

Mr. Brown

The chief complaints have been about shoes and stockings. We are going to make representations to the Board of Trade on this point.
