HC Deb 29 July 1943 vol 391 c1757
22. Mr. Sorensen

asked the Secretary of State for India what consideration has been given to the possibility of Indian editors or responsible journalists representative of all parties visiting this country?

The Secretary of State for India (Mr. Amery)

The Government of India are investigating the proposal, but I understand that the practical difficulties are likely to be considerable.

Mr. Sorensen

Are the practical difficulties any greater in respect of India than they are in respect of West Africa or the West Indies? Does the right hon. Gentleman not think it highly desirable that, as evidence has come from those two Colonies, similar arrangements might be made in regard to India?

Mr. Amery

Transport from India by sea is very much longer than that from either of the places mentioned by the hon. Member, and transport by air is very difficult to secure.

Mr. Sorensen

Is the right hon. Gentleman still investigating the matter; and, if so, will he give some report at a later date?

Mr. Amery

Yes, Sir. I have asked the Government of India. They are investigating the problem, and will no doubt let me know before long.
