HC Deb 29 July 1943 vol 391 c1763
39. Mr. Thorne

asked the Home Secretary how many air-raid shelters there are in the United Kingdom above and below ground and how many bricks were used to build them; and what the Government intend doing with the bricks when the shelters are pulled down after the end of hostilities?

Mr. H. Morrison

I am afraid the answer to my hon. Friend's Question is that I do not know.

Mr. Thorne

Can my right hon. Friend say to whom the bricks would belong, whether the Government or the local authority?

Mr. Morrison

In most cases they would belong to the local authority.
