HC Deb 21 July 1943 vol 391 c893
50. Mr. Higgs

asked the Minister of Production whether he is aware that an average engineering concern is called upon to supply statistical data to Government Departments in excess of pre-war requirements under approximately 4,000 to 5,000 headings per month; and will he make arrangements to avoid calling for unnecessary returns and to eliminate duplication?

The Minister of Production (Mr. Lyttelton)

The hon. Member will recognise that to ensure proper control and planning of war industry a considerable amount of statistical and factual material must be called for. It is, of course, the aim of Government Departments to restrict these returns as much as possible. I have just received from the hon. Member the forms of which he complains, and I will communicate with him as soon as I have been able to examine them.

Mr. Higgs

Will my right hon. Friend be able to apply that to other Departments, including the Ministry of Labour?
