§ 57. Sir Henry Morris-Jonesasked the Minister of Health whether he is aware that certain suppliers in this country of reputable appliances for the aid of deafness are threatening to close down owing to the restriction on the imports of essential parts; and what steps he is taking to meet the situation?
§ Mr. E. BrownNo, Sir. I have heard that one firm of importers is threatening to close down, but not for the reason given by my hon. Friend. I do not think it necessary for me to take any special steps in the matter.
§ Sir H. Morris-JonesIs it not the case that in regard to this particular apparatus supplies have been cut down to 37½ per cent. instead of the 50 per cent. mentioned by my right hon. Friend, and does not that mean very severe deprivation for these deaf people, to whom it makes the difference between an active life and almost retirement?
§ Mr. BrownI think there is a misunderstanding. I did see the representative of the firm concerned.
