§ 55. Mr. Stokesasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will state the amount of small savings subscribed in recent "Wings for Victory" weeks; and how the figures compare with small savings subscribed in "Warship" weeks last year?
§ Sir K. WoodOf the total results estimated to produce £605,000,000, local totals amounting to £500,000,000 have been analysed, and these show that small savings subscribed accounted for £143,000,000, or 29 per cent, of those totals. These subscriptions represented an increase of 25 per cent, over the small savings subscriptions of the same areas in "Warship" weeks.
§ Mr. StokesAre we to take it that the £143,000,000 are small subscriptions made by genuine small subscribers? [Interruption.] He knows what I mean well enough.
§ Sir K. WoodI think they are as I have described them.
§ Mr. StokesThe right hon. Gentleman did not describe them adequately.
