HC Deb 28 January 1943 vol 386 c590
13. Mr. William Brown

asked the Minister of Labour whether he is aware that on 5th October, 1942, the National Service Officer instructed the Enfield Cycle Company Limited to reinstate two employees who had been dismissed; that, on reporting for work, they were refused admission, and on reporting the matter to the National Service officer they were instructed to report to the Employment Exchange and the Enfield Cycle Company, every day; that they did this from 6th October until 21st November, being refused access to work each day, and being paid only their basic rate weekly; and what action he proposes to take against the firm concerned?

Mr. Bevin

I am aware of this case. There is an appeal pending in the High Court in a somewhat similar case, by which I must necessarily be guided. I understand that the men concerned have been working since 28th November, 1942.
