HC Deb 21 January 1943 vol 386 c269
11. Mr. Ellis Smith

asked the Minister of Labour whether he is aware of the growing reluctance of some employers to consider, or remedy, the workpeople's grievances leading to unnecessary friction and in some cases cessation of production; and what steps have been, or are to be, taken to maintain the maximum output and good relations between all interests?

Mr. Bevin

No, Sir. I have no evidence of this. In my view the most effective way to maintain output and good relations is to provide full opportunity for free and frank discussion between representatives of both sides, and my Department is concerned to stimulate and encourage the formation of appropriate machinery for that purpose.
