HC Deb 21 January 1943 vol 386 c271
17. Mr. Graham White

asked the Minister of Labour, as on the last convenient date, the number of men over 65 years of age and women over 60 years of age who are in registered employment?

Mr. Bevin

Information supplied by my right hon. Friends the Minister of Health and the Secretary of State for Scotland indicates that the approximate numbers of men over 65 and women over 60 who obtained some insurable employment in Great Britain during the first half of the year 1942, as shown by the receipt of contribution cards bearing one or more contributions for the period, were 550,000 men and 200,000 women. The numbers of such persons in employment at any particular date is not known but must be considerably less than those figures?
