HC Deb 21 January 1943 vol 386 c301
Sir I. Albery (by Private Notice)

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he has any statement to make about the relations of Chile with the Axis Powers.

The Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs (Mr. Eden)

Yes, Sir. The Chilean Ambassador called upon me this morning in order to inform me that Chile had broken off relations with Germany, Italy and Japan. I expressed to the Ambassador the satisfaction of His Majesty's Government at this decision, and I am sure that the House will join me in welcoming this event. Perhaps I might add that His Majesty's Government look forward to the day when the whole South American Continent will have ceased to be in relations with our common enemy.
