HC Deb 19 January 1943 vol 386 c14
14. Miss Ward

asked the Secretary of State for War the percentage of officers who have benefited by the increases in pay and, as a separate figure, the percentage of married officers, with and without children, who have benefited by the increased rates of family lodging allowance which came into force on 1st October?

25. Mr. Hewlett

asked the Secretary of State for War whether, in view of the recent increases of pay to subalterns and captains, he can state the approximate number of each rank who will thereby benefit?

Sir J. Grigg

The number of those entitled to benefit by the increases in pay is not yet known, since much of the relevant information is not in the possession of the pay authorities who must therefore in a large proportion of cases await claims from officers, but it would not in any case be a large proportion of the total number of officers. The percentages of married officers who benefit from the increased rates of family lodging allowance are: of those without children, 55 per cent.; of those with children, 75 per cent.
