35. Mr. Wakefield

asked the Minister of Health what is the estimated cost of alterations and work now being undertaken at the property in Avenue Road, N.W.8, recently requisitioned by his Department; and what is the estimated cost of replacement and compensation?

Mr. E. Brown

The estimated cost of alterations and work now being undertaken at this property is £1,220. Replacement and compensation will be determined under the provisions of the Defence Compensation Act if and when a claim is received.

Mr. Wakefield

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that there appears to be a great deal of unnecessary expenditure on this place and that compensation is likely to be very high? Will he look into the question and see whether the cost to the taxpaver cannot be kept as low as possible?

Mr. Brown

In view of the fact that my hon. Friend has some concern in this matter I think that we had better discuss this elsewhere.
