HC Deb 23 February 1943 vol 387 c16
30. Mr. Malcolm MacMillan

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether any comprehensive survey of the water supply position and requirements of the Outer Hebrides is now being undertaken or being prepared with a view to providing an adequate supply of clean water for all communities in the Outer Isles; and whether he will make a statement of his policy and proposals in this respect, in view of the many inadequate, inconvenient and contaminated supplies now in use?

Mr. Johnston

The Outer Hebrides are included in a programme of investigation into water supply resources which the technical staff of the Department of Health for Scotland are undertaking. When the results are available I shall consider with the local authorities what measures are necessary for the improvement of supplies in the islands, of whose requirements I am fully aware.
