HC Deb 23 February 1943 vol 387 c29
45. Mr. De la Bère

asked the Prime Minister whether he is now in a position to make a statement regarding the Government's intentions as to prolonging the life of this Parliament beyond 1943?

The Deputy Prime Minister (Mr. Attlee)

No, Sir. My hon. Friend will appreciate that I cannot at this date forecast the conditions likely to prevail when the present life of Parliament expires in November.

Mr. De la Bère

Is it not a fact that there was a tinge of unrest about the political atmosphere last week, and is my right hon. Friend aware that the public dislike these political controversies while the war is on?

Mr. Attlee

That seems to me to be another matter.

Mr. Mack

Is it not true that the life of Parliament has already expired?
