HC Deb 23 February 1943 vol 387 c12
20. Mr. Stokes

asked the Secretary of State for War the horse-power of the engines fitted to the A.22 tanks sent to Libya; and the size of engine designed to be fitted to this tank as a standard?

Sir J. Grigg

All Churchills used so far against the enemy have been fitted with a 325 h.p. Bedford engine. The answer to the second part of the Question it is not in the public interest to disclose.

Mr. Stokes

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that this tank was designed to be equipped with a 600 h.p. engine and is it not due to the gross inefficiency on the part of the Tank Board that it is still not so fitted?

Sir J. Grigg

I am not prepared to add anything to the answer I have just given.

Mr. Stokes

The Germans know all about it.
