§ 18. Mr. Storeyasked the Home Secretary whether he can now make his promised statement upon police widows' pensions?
§ Mr. H. MorrisonThe position hitherto has been that the Police Federation do not feel able to accept the principle recommended by the Snell Committee that the cost of increased pensions for widows of police officers should fall not on public funds but mainly on the police themselves and, in the absence of agreement on this fundamental point, I can see no prospect of legislation to give effect to the Committee's proposals.
§ Mr. StoreyIn view of that statement, will the right hon. Gentleman consider dealing with the existing police widows, who cannot possibly be affected by any contributions from serving officers now?
§ Mr. MorrisonThat is a separate question which should be put upon the Order Paper.
