HC Deb 18 February 1943 vol 386 c1925
18. Mr. Storey

asked the Home Secretary whether he can now make his promised statement upon police widows' pensions?

Mr. H. Morrison

The position hitherto has been that the Police Federation do not feel able to accept the principle recommended by the Snell Committee that the cost of increased pensions for widows of police officers should fall not on public funds but mainly on the police themselves and, in the absence of agreement on this fundamental point, I can see no prospect of legislation to give effect to the Committee's proposals.

Mr. Storey

In view of that statement, will the right hon. Gentleman consider dealing with the existing police widows, who cannot possibly be affected by any contributions from serving officers now?

Mr. Morrison

That is a separate question which should be put upon the Order Paper.
