HC Deb 18 February 1943 vol 386 cc1926-7
20. Major Vyvyan Adams

asked the Home Secretary at what date this year double summer time will begin and when it will end; and, in view of the inconveniences of the black-out, whether he will start double summer time as soon as possible and consider making it permanent?

Mr. H. Morrison

I expect to be able to make an announcement on this subject at an early date.

Major Adams

Will the right hon. Gentleman remember that the inconveniences of the black-out are one of the most depressing circumstances at present, and will he do all he can to give us more daylight as early as possible?

Mr. Morrison

I think we have given evidence that the Government always desire to spread daylight, and we have made every effort to do so.

Major Adams

If the Government cannot give us the Beveridge Report, will they give us more daylight?

Sir Alfred Beit

Could we not begin by having better lighting in this House?
