HC Deb 17 February 1943 vol 386 c1706
2. Mr. Woods

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he: has taken any steps to reassure the Government and people of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics that the mutilation of the Lenin Memorial monument, in the borough of Finsbury, was the work of vandals and is as bitterly resented by the Government and people of this country as it will be in Russia?

Mr. Eden

Yes, Sir. I have requested the Soviet Ambassador to express to his Government the profound regret of His Majesty's Government at this act of vandalism.
