§ 40. Mr. Rileyasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he has yet received the Report of the Commission of Inquiry into Conditions in the Bahamas; and whether he is aware that the recommendations of the Commission have already been published in the Bahamas newspapers?
§ Colonel StanleyAs I informed the hon. Member for the English Universities (Mr. Harvey) on 27th January, I propose that the Report should be published in this country as soon as I have received the despatch containing the Governor's observations. I understand that the despatch is now in transit, and I hope that it will arrive here shortly.
§ Mr. RileyIs the Minister aware that the Report has been published in the Bahamas newspapers, as stated in the Question? Is that in accordance with the usual practice?
§ Colonel StanleyYes, Sir, it was published there as soon as it was received, as I think I informed the House at the time. Unfortunately delays have occurred in the transport of this Report to this country.
§ Mr. HarveyWill the Report be accompanied by the decisions of the Government on its recommendations?
§ Colonel StanleyI hope to be in a position to make some statement.
