HC Deb 16 February 1943 vol 386 cc1591-2
53. Major Procter

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether employers of women normally acting as housekeepers, but now called upon to perform part-time National Service in addition to their housekeeping duties, can claim Income Tax rebate on their account; and whether, both for the information of the public and the tax gatherers, he will define the exact taxable position of these householders in relation to such war workers?

Sir K. Wood

When the conditions of Section 19 of the Finance Act, 1920, are otherwise fulfilled, the fact that the person employed as a housekeeper takes up part-time National Service will not affect the employer's title to the housekeeper allowance, if the employee in fact continues to perform the duties of housekeeper.

Major Procter

Will my right hon. Friend see that that information is conveyed to the Income Tax authorities in Lancashire?

Sir K. Wood

I hope that they are well aware of it.
