HC Deb 09 February 1943 vol 386 c1164
50. Sir A. Knox

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he can give an estimate of the additional annual demands on the Exchequer after the war for housing, education, civil aviation, repatriation of aliens, colonial development, agriculture, afforestation, war pensions, the Beveridge plan and the Uthwatt and Scott Report, should they all be adopted in their entirety?

Sir K. Wood

I would refer my hon. and gallant Friend to the reply which I gave on 21st January to a Question on this subject by my hon. Friend the Member for South Kensington (Sir W. Davison).

Sir A. Knox

Does not my right hon. Friend consider that even a rough statement on these lines might check the exuberance of reformers now, as people in this country do not always realise that everything depends upon industry?
