30. Mr. Richards

asked the right hon. and gallant Member for Rye as representing the Forestry Commissioners, what proportion of the land of England and of Wales, respectively, is, or has been, afforested by the Forestry Commission; and the number of workers employed in the two countries?

Colonel Sir George Courthope (Forestry Commissioner)

193,800 acres of land in England and 75,200 acres in Wales are, or have been, afforested by the Forestry Commission. The number of workers employed according to the latest return was 2,540 in England and 920 in Wales.

Mr. Richards

While thanking the right hon. and gallant Gentleman for that information, may I ask what proportion of the Commissioners are Welsh-speaking?

Sir G. Courthope

I must have notice of that Question.
