HC Deb 04 February 1943 vol 386 c1057
70. Sir A. Knox

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury whether, as the Government of India has now agreed to allow the entry, duty free, of gift parcels of tobacco and cigarettes to sailors, soldiers and airmen of the British forces in India, he will announce that such parcels may be sent from this country free of British tax?

Mr. Assheton

Arrangements are now being made under which small parcels of tobacco, cigars or cigarettes weighing not less than 4 ounces net may, on and after 12th February, be sent by post, free of United Kingdom duty to members of His Majesty's Forces serving in India or Burma.
